The Gravois Park Neighborhood Association meets Tuesday, September 10th, 6pm, at the Rita Ford Community Center, 3353 California, just north of Cherokee.
The St. Cecilia Historic District Neighborhood Association‘s next monthly meeting is Tuesday, September 17th, 6:30pm. Enter St. Cecilia School on the 5400 block of Alaska.
The Mount Pleasant Neighborhood Association has their next meeting on Wednesday, September 25th, 7pm at the Gretchen Inn next door to the Feasting Fox.
Dutchtown CID Meetings
The Dutchtown Community Improvement District holds public Board of Directors meetings on the fourth Thursday of every month. Additionally, its three committees meet quarterly. Find out more about the Dutchtown CID and its committees in our recent post.
Intersect Arts Center
Fall classes at Intersect Arts Center in Gravois Park will be starting soon. Registration is open now. Here are a few of the offerings beginning in September.
Ceramic Handbuilding Sculpture: Explore the ceramic form and gain a strong foundation in practical skills, technical knowledge, and contemporary ceramic practices. Classes are Saturdays, 1pm–3pm, beginning September 14th.
Ceramics with Justin Leszcz: Learn a variety of wheel throwing and glazing techniques. Classes are Saturdays, 9am–11am, beginning September 14th.
Off the Frame: Weaving By Hand: Learn weaving and fiber basics in this three session course. At the end of the course, participants will have completed their own woven wall hanging. Classes are Saturdays, 9am–noon, beginning September 21st.
The art gallery at Intersect will also be opening a new exhibition, Anew, presenting the duality experienced every day between the reality of violence in the community and the ways we collectively address and support one another. Anew opens on Saturday, September 7th, during the CommUNITY Arts Festival (read more below) and continues through October 4th. The gallery is open weekdays from 9am to 6pm.
Thomas Dunn Learning Center
Thomas Dunn Learning Center‘s Art Lab is open Monday through Thursday from 3pm to 6pm. Work on your own piece or participate in the focus of the day. Art supplies are available along with tons of items to reuse and repurpose.
The South Side Youth Council meets every Monday at 4pm at Thomas Dunn. The South Side Youth Council aims to contribute to the South Side community by creating and organizing youth led programs and events.
The next Sip ‘n Sketch is Wednesday, September 11th at 6:30pm. Adults of all skill levels are invited to participate in this life drawing class exploring a variety of materials and techniques. Bring a snack and a beverage. Register by calling 314-282-9314.
FreeSource‘s Tech Support Cafe returns to Thomas Dunn on Thursday, September 19th from 6pm to 8pm. Participants can receive free technical assistance and peer mentorship from volunteer IT professionals in a welcoming, friendly, accessible workshop atmosphere.

The 2019 CommUNITY Arts Festival takes place at Intersect Arts Center on Saturday, September 7th starting at 11am. This event features visual art, multiple performances, educational and art workshops, resources, and a screening of the documentary Sweetest Land. The CommUNITY Arts Festival celebrate arts programs making a positive impact in St. Louis and works to educate the community on public health issues contributing to the city’s violence issues and connect them with programs and resources. Perennial kicks of their fundraising season with Pies for Perennial on Thursday, September 12th. Enjoy local brews and crafting projects and help pick the best pie in St. Louis to be featured at October’s Lost + F(o)und fundraiser.
Earthbound Beer hosts Bliss, a pop-up brunch, on Sunday, September 15th at the brewery. Chef Nico is an up-and-coming talent in the St. Louis food scene. Don’t miss this chance to try out his outstanding food. Visit the Facebook event page for a glimpse of the menu.
DT2 and the South City Sipsters are teaming up for the next After Hours happy hour. Join them at Original Crusoe’s on Wednesday, September 18th starting at 5:30pm. Enjoy a wide selection of beers, great food, and the company of your neighbors.
The Dutchtown South Community Corporation‘s Community Empowerment Committee meets on Wednesday, September 25th. Residents have the opportunity to help implement DSCC’s programs in the community. The meeting is at 6pm at Thomas Dunn Learning Center. Dinner and childcare are provided.
